Background

Retort was a brand name formed in January 1, 2012, when FremantleMedia split Talkback Thames into four companies. It was focused on scripted comedy. In 2018, the company was replaced by Hare and Tortoise, which would be later closed in 2022.

Logo (January 1, 2012-2018)

Visuals: There is a red box which swings a little before becoming still. The word "RETORT" is in the middle, and the FremantleMedia UK byline is below.

Variant: Most of the time, the logo shares the screen with other logos.

Technique: Computer animation.

Audio: The ending theme of the programme or none.

Availability: Seen on then-current shows which are The IT Crowd, PhoneShop, the Goodnight Sweetheart one-off special Many Happy Returns, and Birds of a Feather.

  • It is also seen on Count Arthur Strong and Chewing Gum.
  • It is also preserved on the BritBox streaming print of The IT Crowd special "The Internet is Coming" (the only and final episode made post-split) on Amazon Prime Video, which is then followed by the 2001 FremantleMedia International logo.
