Background

Showcase was launched on 1st January 1995 as a venture between Alliance Entertainment and CBC (including also a number of independent producers). After years Showcase fell under full control of Alliance Atlantis, whose assets were acquired by CanWest, and the property of latter was in turn picked by Shaw Media, and now Corus Entertainment. which remains the current owner of Showcase, an English-language Canadian channel.

1st (known) Logo (August 17, 1998-2009)

Visuals: On a black background a white box with its outline partially drawn, divided into eight cells by yellow lines, appears. The letters "SHOW" take the upper four cells, and "CASE" take the lower ones.

Variants:

  • On Welcome to Paradox, the rectangle has a white glow around it.
  • In later years, a slogan would appear below ("Television without borders") together with a website. This variant have full outline.

Technique: A still, digital graphic.

Audio: The end theme of the show.

Availability: It was seen on Showcase original shows. The first to have it was Welcome to Paradox.

2nd Logo (2000-Janaury 9, 2006)


Visuals: There is the Showcase grid with a light beaming from behind. Each of the cells shows a videoclip of some sort. The logo slowly zooms out. Then two gray bars with "ORIGINAL" grow on the top and bottom and the videos change to the letters.

Technique: CGI and live-action footage.

Audio: A fast-paced techno theme featuring a piano.

Availability: It can be seen on seasons 1-5 of Trailer Park Boys on Netflix. It was also seen on Showcase before original shows.

3rd Logo (April 16, 2006-2009)


Visuals: Many light flares flash over a black background. Suddenly, a huge flash reveals a grey background with a Showcase logo with "ORIGINAL" below; all rendered in a 3D effect.

Variant: For HD programming, a golden box with "HD" inside appears underneath.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: Sounds of applause.

Availability: Seen on Showcase programming from around the time, such as season 6-7 of Trailer Park Boys and season 5 of Kenny VS Spenny.

4th Logo (2009-2015)

Visuals: Over a night city, a giant transparent version of the new Showcase logo, consisting of an irregular square with the stacked word "SHOWCASE" inside rises, lighted with pink flares. It has the word "ORIGINAL", also transparent, hanging against the shield.

Technique: CGI animation.

Audio: A low humming sound.

Availiability: Seen on recent programs that aired on Showcase, like season 6 of Kenny VS Spenny.
