Background

TBS Pictures is a feature film division of Tokyo Broadcasting System that was formed in 2003.

1st Logo (August 30, 2003-August 20, 2020)

Visuals: The logo starts with various close-ups of "TBS" as the text "TOKYO BROADCASTING SYSTEM" is formed in a light effect. The sequence then fades to the "TBS" text already formed with a light underneath which forms a line, and "PICTURES" appears below the line.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: None.

Availability: The logo made its first appearance on the live-action adaptation of Dragon Head (2003) and was last seen on ITO: The Tapestry of Love.

2nd Logo (December 30, 2021-)

Visuals: On a dark blue background, "TOKYO BROADCASTING SYSTEM" slowly zooms out from the right side of the screen and swivels letter-by-letter as light beams shoot out around it. A bright ball of light forms behind the text. After the text finishes zooming out, a light beam from the left side of the screen passes through it, causing "TBS" to "flip" in over it. The background and everything else fades out, only leaving the "TBS" wordmark. The wordmark shifts up as "PICTURES" fades in and zooms in slowly.

Technique: CGI and 2D animation. A case study of TBS' logo animation can be shown from the 5th column of TBS' logo design page here. Note that this page is Japanese only.

Audio: None.

Availability: First seen on 99.9 Criminal Lawyer: THE MOVIE.
