Background

TBS Pictures is a feature film division of Tokyo Broadcasting System that was formed in 2003.

1st Logo (June 10, 2000-June 14, 2003)

Visuals: There is a shot of TBS' headquarters in Minato on a night sky, with the TBS Kanji person symbol being placed in the middle of the building as it pans up to a giant projector. As the projector turns on, the camera moves to the right as the 1994 TBS wordmark in blue with the words "TOKYO BROADCASTING SYSTEM, INC." in black appearing on a white screen being carried by blimps. The screen later zooms in as the camera fades to white.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: A synth theme with a man saying "Extra" and some choir sounds.

Availability: Seen on TBS' films from that period, beginning with Pyrokinesis/Crossfire and was last seen on College of Our Life.

2nd Logo (August 30, 2003-August 20, 2020)

Visuals: There are various close-ups of the letters forming the 1994 TBS wordmark in blue and in Times New Roman as the text "TOKYO BROADCASTING SYSTEM" is formed in a light effect. After that, the animation fades to the 1994 TBS wordmark text already formed with a light underneath which forms a line, and "PICTURES" appearing below the line on a black background.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: Silent or the opening theme of the film.

Availability: The logo made its first appearance on the live-action adaptation of Dragon Head (2003) and was last seen on ITO: The Tapestry of Love.

3rd Logo (December 30, 2021-)

Visuals: On a dark blue background, "TOKYO BROADCASTING SYSTEM" slowly zooms out from the right side of the screen and swivels letter-by-letter as light beams shoot out around it. A bright ball of light forms behind the text. After the text finishes zooming out, a light beam from the left side of the screen passes through it, causing "TBS" to "flip" in over it. The background and everything else fades out, only leaving the "TBS" wordmark. The wordmark shifts up as "PICTURES" fades in and zooms in slowly.

Technique: CGI and 2D animation. A case study of TBS' logo animation can be shown from the 5th column of TBS' logo design page here. Note that this page is Japanese only.

Audio: Silent.

Availability: First seen on 99.9 Criminal Lawyer: THE MOVIE.
