Background

WHNS (channel 21), branded Fox Carolina, is a television station licensed to Greenville, South Carolina, United States, serving as the Fox affiliate for Upstate South Carolina and Western North Carolina. Owned by Gray Television, the station maintains studios on Interstate Court (just northwest of Interstate 85) in Greenville, and its transmitter is located atop Slick Rock Mountain in Transylvania County, North Carolina (5 miles (8 km) southeast of Brevard).

1st ID (1990)

Visuals: Over a blue gradient background, the golden text "WE'RE YOUR STATION." in a stacked and tilted format are shown. The text zooms in and tilts to the opposite side and fades out, and the golden number "21" flies in as the golden station name "WHNS" flips in and flies from the bottom. The background forms into a rectangle, revealing a waterfall footage. The station's headquarters zoom out below, as well as the text from before.

Technique: Computer animation.

Audio: A 6-note chime tune, followed by a majestic violin & trumpet fanfare accompanied by an announcer saying "This is your station. WHNS 21, serving Ashville, Greenville, Spartenburg and Anderson.".

2nd ID (1990)

Visuals: The sequence starts off a crowd standing behind the Fox logomark illuminated by searchlights. Two silver bars then zoom out and face the left portion, revealing a turquoise Fox logomark and the text "WHNS" below, as well as the golden number "21" rising up above. The headquarters in white are shown below, and the background fades to black with a blue light behind, as the logo shines.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: The 20th Century Fox logo audio from the time, accompanied by an announcer saying "You're watching WHNS Fox 21.".

3rd ID (1992-1993)

Visuals: Over a blue gradient background with a white right angle shape in the lower-left portion, the gray copies of a number "21" slide and flip in from below, and slide to the right side as the gray text "WHNS" slides in from the number. A red bar slides in from the left and a white word "FOX" fades in in it. The station's headquarters fade in below.

Technique: CGI and computer animation.

Audio: A cartoonish flute tune with the announcer saying information about the airing show.

Audio Variant: A majestic new-age violin stinger is heard with the announcer saying "This is WHNS Fox 21. Ashville, Greenville, Spartenburg, Anderson.".

4th ID (1998)

Visuals: The sequence starts off with the black letters of the Fox logomark connecting and leaving blue rays, and a silver number "21" in a blue square appears through a dissolving effect and faces the viewer as the faint Fox logomark is shown sliding across the screen on a blue background. A red gradient rectangle slides in from above and shrinks into a bar, revealing the white text "WHNS" in it and a white square above. A silver word "FOX" slides in from the blue square, and the white text "WHNS ASHEVILLE GREENVILLE SPARTANBURG ANDERSON" fades in below.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: Several whooshes accompanied by an announcer saying "You're watching WHNS Fox 21.", and ending with an ascending whoosh and a click with a synth pad.
