Background

YLE Extra was a former television channel operated by Yle, the public TV broadcaster of Finland. Replacing the previous YLE24 news channel, it was launched on April 27, 2007 in order to broadcast live events and a handful of separate pop culture programs. YLE Extra constantly suffered with low ratings and was quickly closed down on January 1, 2008.

(April 27, 2007-January 1, 2008)

Logo: We see the channel logo, which consists of a small one surrounded by a larger one with a small and round "E" inside. The logo is placed on an orange and white backgroud and rapidly moves in sync with the music, stretching itself repeatedly. The screen slowly pans away from the logo to a top angle, while we see the logo creating multiple clones of itself that move away on a straight line. The logo then settles down and we see a stylized "EXTRA" fading in right next to the logo.

FX/SFX: The CGI logo and its shadow on the orange and white wall, the logo creating multiple clones of itself.

Music/Sounds: A calm synth theme that ends with a woman announcer whispering "Extra".

Availability: Extinct on TV. It could be spotted after the program had ended or as a closedown ident.

Legacy: It's a calm logo, but may surprise some at closedown, since it's immediately followed by a loud test card.
