Qubo Productions

Background

Qubo was launched in 2006 as a multi platform children's entertainment joint venture between NBCUniversal, Ion Media Networks, Classic Media, Corus Entertainment and Scholastic. NBCUniversal dropped out from the partnership in March 2012 and Ion acquired NBCUniversal's interest in the venture. A year later, Ion wholly acquired all of Qubo from Classic Media (now known as DreamWorks Classics) Corus, and Scholastic.

Following Ion Media's acquisition by the E. W. Scripps Company in September 2020, Qubo was discontinued on February 28, 2021, along with Ion Plus and Shop Ion. Qubo was replaced by selected Katz-owned networks on Ion affiliates (including O&Os spun off to INYO Broadcast Holdings, which obtained affiliations with certain Katz networks as part of a broader agreement with Scripps/Ion) on February 27, and was replaced on Scripps-owned Ion stations post-shutdown on March 1. Following the Qubo channel's shut down, Smile and the 24/7 PBS Kids Channel would remain as the only two full-time children's over-the-air networks in the United States.
