Background
TV Land is an American pay television cable channel owned by Paramount Media Networks. Launched in 1996 originally as a spinoff of Nick at Nite consisting exclusively of classic television shows, the channel now airs a mix of recent and classic television series (ranging from the 1960s to the 2010s), original scripted series and limited theatrically released movies.
Visuals: On a half-divided orange and light blue background, there is a white oval globe in the center with the continents on both sides colorized orange and blue respectively, and the classic TV Land logo (which looks similar to the familiar logo, but with sharper points and the squares arranged in a jumbled manner) inside. The word "PRODUCTIONS" and a copyright stamp are below it.
Variants:
In late 2000, the logo was updated with better alignment and a slicker look, and is now rendered in black-and-white along with the oval map.
There is a black and white version.
On ALF's Hit Talk Show and Chasing Farrah, the little specs around the logo flicker.
On some shows, the word “ORIGINAL” is above the logo while the word “PRODUCTION” is seen below.
On rare occasions, the logo itself is blue instead of white, and the oval map is the same as in the pre-2001 version.
Technique: A still 2D graphic.
Audio: A man saying "This has been a TV Land production" with a spacey 70's-style keyboard sound in the background. The B&W variant has no sounds in the background. ALF's Hit Talk Show used the end theme with no announcer.
Audio Variants:
On Chasing Farrah, TV Land’s signature jingle from the time is heard, which consists of 3 consecutive synth beeps; corresponding to the tiny dots flashing around the logo.
Original CBS airings of The Dick Van Dyke Show Revisited used a generic theme and a voiceover.
Availability: Seen at the end of TV Land's old 60-Second Sitcom segments All's Well, Spin & Cutter and The Gaveltons. Also seen on ALF's Hit Talk Show, Chasing Farrah and Malcolm's Ultimate Fan Hour. It was also seen at the end of The Brady Bunch's 35th Anniversary Reunion, which had the 2nd logo at the beginning.
2nd Logo (March 17, 2004-March 28, 2007)
Visuals: The TV Land logo (blue letters and green squares) forms piece-by-piece, but also pans away as "ORIGINAL TV LAND PRESENTATION" appears and pans away as well, all on a dark green background. The TV Land logo then appears again with the dark green letters and green border positioning on the blue box, two larger copies of which slide behind and reveal "ORIGINAL" and "PRESENTATION" in dark green above and below. The logo then turns white in sync to the music.
Technique: 2D CGI by Trollbäck+Company.
Audio: A relaxing tune followed by the TV Land jingle, accompanied by an announcer saying "And now, an original TV Land presentation."
Availability: Seen at the beginning of the 2004 TV Land Awards and The Brady Bunch's 35th Anniversary Reunion, among other specials and shows that aired on the network, such as ALF's Hit Talk Show and Sit Down Comedy with David Steinberg.
3rd Logo (June 16-August 18, 2010)
Visuals: On a white background with a faint wallpaper of the word "PRIME", the word "PRIME" in an outlined blue font unfolds itself. The screen quickly zooms out as it finishes unfolding, as the TV Land logo of the time (which features the stylized square from the previous logo, but without any of the squares inside) appears next to it, with a line between them. The words "ORIGINAL PRODUCTION" in black Impact appear below, and a copyright stamp appears below the logo when it forms.
Technique: CGI by Trollbäck+Company.
Audio: A shining sound effect.
Availability: It was only seen on the first season of Hot in Cleveland.
4th Logo (January 19, 2011-February 1, 2012)
Visuals: On a stylized dark blue background, there is a glimpse of the stacked text "ORIGINAL PRODUCTION" with a flowing blue cloth around it. The screen then cuts to a full view of the cloth, with the text and the TV Land logo in black and white zooming out, and a copyright stamp appears below.
Variant: On Hot in Cleveland, a white label reading "PRIME" is attached to the right side of the logo.
Technique: CGI by Trollbäck+Company.
Audio: A short 6-note rock theme.
Availability: Seen on the first seasons of Happily Divorced, The Exes and Retired at 35, and the second season of Hot in Cleveland. However, it's replaced by later logos on reruns.
5th Logo (November 30, 2011-February 13, 2013)
Visuals: On a green background, several magenta and light blue layers flip to the left like a book, until they form a rough blue box with the "TV LAND" logo inside, and "ORIGINAL PRODUCTIONS" in blue sliding in on the right side.
Technique: CGI by Trollbäck+Company.
Audio: A short rock tune.
Availability: Seen on the third season of Hot in Cleveland, the second season of Retired at 35, and Happily Divorced.
6th Logo (June 20, 2012-September 16, 2015)
Visuals: On a turquoise gradient background, the word "TV" zooms in with a rough, rotated blue box partially surrounding it. The box slides down and becomes an outline, after which the screen cuts to a blue gradient background with the name "TVland" on the left, with the rotated box around "TV", and the stacked words "ORIGINAL PRODUCTIONS" slide out from the right side of the logo and stop next to it.
Variant: On seasons 3-4 of The Exes and seasons 5-6 of Hot in Cleveland, after the "ORIGINAL PRODUCTIONS" screen is overlapped by the TV Land screen, it slides away to show the TV Land logo on a vertically graded background, and as the box outline "claps", "ORIGINAL PRODUCTIONS" slides out from the logo.
Technique: 2D animation by Trollbäck+Company.
Audio: A short rock tune that ends in a whistle version of the TV Land jingle. The variation uses a rearranged version without the whistle.
Availability: Seen on the last 3 seasons of Hot in Cleveland, The Exes, Soul Man, and the first 6 episodes of Younger.
7th Logo (May 5, 2015-March 21, 2017)
Visuals: On a white background, there is a dark blue parallelogram in the center of the screen. The parallelogram quickly becomes a weird-looking shape that resembles two squares overlapping each other, before it transforms into the current TV Land logo (which consists of "TV LAND" in white on a similar strange shape) with two lines that resemble markings from a permanent marker. The TV Land logo and the markings move around the screen in various shots, including a close-up of the TV Land logo with a marker-drawn circle around it. As the TV Land logo zooms out, two arrows appear in the bottom left and top right corners from the logo, causing the words "ORIGINAL" and "PRODUCTION", also written with a marker, to zoom out at the top and bottom of the TV Land logo respectively. A copyright notice fades in below.
Variant: A still version exists on The Jim Gaffigan Show.
Technique: A mix of stop-motion and 2D animation by Roger, who also did the current Discovery and Nickelodeon brandings.
Audio: A grungy beat-box remix tune.
Audio Variants:
On Impastor, the last part of the previous logo's audio is briefly heard at the beginning, after the CBS Television Studios logo.
On seasons 2-3 of Younger, the tune is different.
On The Jim Gaffigan Show, the closing theme of the show plays it over.
Availability: Seen on Impastor, seasons 1-first half of 2 of Teachers, seasons 1-3 of Younger, and The Jim Gaffigan Show, among others.
8th Logo (June 28, 2017-September 4, 2019)
Visuals: On a blue background, the letters "T" in turquoise and "V" in white, then the magenta word "LAND" appears with two turquoise squares. Then is the current TV Land logo in magenta with the lime green word "ORIGINAL" behind it, which starts to go up to make space for "PRODUCTION" in turquoise, so now it reads "ORIGINAL PRODUCTION" in the respective colors. Both the TV Land logo and "ORIGINAL PRODUCTION" start to zoom out of the camera, while the latter words separate from themselves before going back to their places. A lime copyright notice fades in below.
Technique: A mix of stop-motion and 2D animation by Roger.
Audio: A two-note theme accompanied by drum sounds.
Availability: Seen on episodes of Younger, Teachers, and various other original programming on TV Land.
