Background
The International Instructional Television Cooperative (ITV) is a nonprofit organization founded in 1973 to develop, produce, and distribute educational shows in the fields of language arts, science, social studies, art and consumer education.
1st Logo (September 1, 1977-1978)
Visuals: On a black background, a strange-looking logo appears, which consists of a "T" attached to the left of a bracket-like "C". The combination makes it look like a "V" instead. On the "T" is a black "I", surrounded in a outline with the same color as the logo. A dot appears above the "I".
Variants: This is either filmed or videotaped:
- Filmed: The logo is yellow and the dot is white.
- Videotaped: The logo is light blue and the dot is red.
Technique: Motion-controlled animation.
Audio:
- Filmed: A synth fanfare with the last note held out.
- Videotaped: A ding.
Availability: The Book Bird had the filmed logo, while Dragons, Wagons and Wax had the videotaped logo.
2nd Logo (1980's)
Visuals: On a black background, there is an orange rounded rectangle, which inside it has "TVC" in a stylized serif font. After five seconds, an orange dot appears above the "T".
Technique: Computer animation.
Audio: A female announcer saying the following: "This station is a member of the Instructional Television Cooperative, ITVC. Whose funding makes this program possible." A popping sound appears mid-sentence.
Availability: So far, it can be seen at the start of a February 4 1986 recording of an Mister Rogers' Neighborhood episode, which was aired at WPNE-TV in Green Bay, a station from Wisconsin Public Television (now PBS Wisconsin). It might probably be seen on other recordings from the era, in which some are unknown yet.
