Junior is a German-spanish preschool channel which has been broadcast in Germany since 1996 and Israel since 1997 for children between 3 and 7 years of age. Junior was owned and operated by EM.TV from 1996 to 2008. In 2006, the channel's parent, EM. Entertainment was purchased by Belgian television studio, Studio 100. In Germany, as of April, 2007, it timeshared the channel slot with XL TV (anime) after 8 PM. Former TV channels which timeshared with Junior includes EGVHToon (cartoons), Gametrix (video games), later GTV (video games), and d+ (entertainment, now RTL Nitro). After EM.TV rebranded to EM.Sport Media, Junior was eventually sold to Studio 100 in 2008. In 2022, the channel shuttered after Sky Deutschland (the only platform carrying it) removed it. The Israeli channel continues to exist but it has been spun-off from EM.TV.
Visuals: On a yellow background, each letter in different colors was peeled and the background color changed from one by one.
Trivia: Before its channel was launched in 1996, the brand's then owner Kirch Group used the name and logo as a brand for VHS releases of their programs.
Variant: A still version without a gnome exists on certain prints of Twipsy.
Technique: 2D computer animation.
Audio: A synthesized hip-hop jingle with a ripping sound at the end.
Availability: This may be spotted on some Taurus Video tapes with this label. Also seen at the beginning of 1994-95 TVP1 airings of the 1976 Pinocchio anime.
Visuals: On a yellow background, there is the Junior logo with a byline that says "Junior by EM.TV".
Variants:
Technique: A still, digital graphic. The animated variant has 2D computer animation.
Audio: None or the closing theme of the show. The animated variant uses a pop tune (taken from the Junior & Co. shorts), then a brass hit for Junior winks.
Availability: Seen on various DVDs from series that were distributed by EM.TV such as Maya the Bee (1975 series), Vic the Viking (1973 series), etc. The animated variant was seen on the majority of the Junior & Co. (aka J-Squad in Australia at the time when it aired on the Seven Network) shorts. Also shown as a de-facto videogame logo on German versions of Rainbow Fish PC Games from EMME Interactive and the Twipsy CD Rom game by Tivola (under the Junior label; some versions use the Tivola logo instead). This was also seen on Poochini, Tabaluga (albeit without the "Junior by EM.TV" text), Nick and Perry: Alien Dogs and the rest.
Visuals: On a yellow background with a bunch of ovals, there are a bunch of colorful ovals popping in, and reveals the Junior logo.
Variant: An ident variant exists. First, there is a yellow background with a bunch of red ovals formed in a swirl. Next, after the red oval transitions, there is a blue background with a bunch of green ovals, and finally, the yellow background with a bunch of yellow ovals. Then one of the yellow ovals comes and reveals the red oval beside the blue oval. The Junior logo appears at the bottom right.
Technique: CGI animation by Shana Koenig at Tigar Hare Studios.
Audio: Unknown.
