Background

This is the production arm of ITV Channel Television.

1st Logo (September 1, 1962-Mid 1960's)

Visuals: On a black background, there is a redrawn version of the 1962 leopard logo on top of "Channel Television Production".

Variants:

  • An inverted variant exists.
  • At the opening of programmes, "Production" is replaced with "Presents".

Technique: None. [possible misuse]

Audio: The opening/ending theme of the programme or none.

Availability:

  • The channel has little known programmes throughout its lifespan.
  • Not helping either is that programmes from this period were wiped out and lost to time.
  • It was seen on Island Farmer, among a few others.
  • At least a few can be found on The Channel Archive.

2nd Logo (Mid 1960's-1976?)

Visuals: Usually, the logo consists of the text "CHANNEL COLOUR PRODUCTION" in a stacked format. It is surrounded by a shape which differs depending on the programme.

Variants:

  • One programme has the text within a gold box with a blue tube shape in the centre while against a background in the same colour as the latter shape.
  • In another variant, the background is teal and the text is within a split hot pink tube shape with a hexagon cut out in the centre.

Technique: None. [possible misuse]

Audio: The ending theme of the programme or none.

Availability: Unknown. It appeared on a 2010s ITV News video, but what programme originally had this logo has yet to be stated.

3rd Logo (1970)

Visuals: Just the text "FROM CHANNEL" in black on a orange background.

Technique: None. [possible misuse]

Audio: The opening/ending theme of the programme.

Availability: Seen on The Bitter Years.

4th Logo (July 26, 1976-1987)

Visuals: Same as the 1976 ident but with the channel name replaced with a copyright notice reading "©COPYRIGHT CHANNEL TELEVISION (YEAR)".

Variant: A (.*) variant exists where the logo is paired with six other ITV franchise logos on a blue background. Channel's logo appears on the centre-most section.

Technique: None. [possible misuse]

Audio: The ending theme of the programme or none.

Availability: Appears on programmes by Channel Television from the time-period until 1987.

5th Logo (1985-September 1, 1989)

Visuals: While on a blue or black background, the 1985 ident logo is shown above the text "© CHANNEL TELEVISION (YEAR)".

Variants:

  • For the channel's 25th anniversary, two turquoise film reels containing "1962" and "1987" are placed in between the logo and copyright notice. Plus, "25" is also next to the logo.
    • A blue background variant of this version also exists.
  • In 1988, the background is now black and the text may either now be in Times New Roman or would say "CHANNEL TELEVISION" in the same font, with "© Copyright 1988" below in the same font as the previous version.
  • For programmes produced for Channel 4, the CTV logo is smaller and the text reads "A Channel Television Production for Channel Four".

Technique: None. [possible misuse]

Audio: The ending theme of the programme or none.

Availability: Appears on programmes by Channel Television from the time-period until 1989.

  • Like the 1st logo, there is little known info or resources about what original programmes the channel has produced or whether or not it is intact on home media.
  • It was so far spotted on an episode of About Britain and Great British Isles, respectively.

6th Logo (September 1, 1989-1993)

Visuals: It is a still version of the 1989 ident with the company name replaced with a copyright notice reading the same thing as before. The difference here is that the font is different and it also has a shadow effect.

Variant: An early variant has the CTV logo in a brighter shade of orange against an ordinary blue background. The words "A CHANNEL TELEVISION PRODUCTION FOR" and the 1989 ITV logo both appear below.

Technique: None. [possible misuse]

Audio: The ending theme of the programme or none.

Availability: Appears on programmes by Channel Television from the time-period until 1993.

  • These include To the Island of the Aye Aye and Bertie the Bat, among others.

7th Logo (1993-May 31, 1999)

Visuals: Like before, it is a still version of the 1993 ident where the company name is replaced with "A Channel Television Production".

Variants:

  • Some variants have the text replaced with "PRESENTATION" or "A Channel Television Production For ITV" or "© Channel Television [year]" below.
  • A production variant with both the words "A CHANNEL TELEVISION PRODUCTION FOR" and the 1989 ITV logo also exists.

Technique: None. [possible misuse]

Audio: The ending theme of the programme or none.

Availability: Appears on programmes by Channel Television from the time-period until 1999.

  • These include Eric on Everest, among others.

8th Logo (June 1, 1999-2002)

Visuals: Like before, it is a still version of the main 1999 ident, only with the byline replaced with a copyright year.

Technique: None. [possible misuse]

Audio: The ending theme of the programme or none.

Availability: Appears on programmes by Channel Television from the time-period until 2002.

  • These include Eric's Seven Summits, among others.

9th Logo (2002-January 15, 2006)

Visuals: Like the previous logos, it is a still version of the main 2004 ident, only with the byline replaced with a copyright year.

Variant: On Recycled Rainforest, the logo features leaves covering the endcap and "TELEVISION" also appears below the logo.

Technique: None. [possible misuse]

Audio: The ending theme of the programme or none.

Availability: Appears on programmes by Channel Television from the time-period until 2006.

  • These include Recycled Rainforest and Channel Report News, among others.
