Background

Independent Television News is a news company in Britain, founded in 1955. It is possibly the news subsidiary of ITV.

1st Logo (Late 1980s-1992)

Logo: We see a big 3D blue "ITN" with a yellow outline floating atop a body of rippling water that reflects it.

FX/SFX: The water rippling. Decent early 90s CGI.

Music/Sounds: A calm, cool xylophone ditty with an ethereal sounder in the background. Sometimes, it can be silent.

Availability: Extinct. Only used on ITN at the time.

This can be seen on ITN Video releases at the time from The Video Collection.

Editor's Note: The music may seem ominous and the letters are quite big.

2nd Logo (1988-November 8, 1992)

Seen on ITN programmes on ITV until 1995.
Don't expect it to appear on Channel 4 News at the time, they use a in-credit "An ITN Production" notice, using the Channel 4 News graphic.

4th Logo (1995-January 16, 2006)

Logo: On a blue background we see the same ITN logo from the previous logos now with white outlining on it with the text appearing underneath the ITN logo reads "An ITN Production for ITV" with the 1989 ITV logo.

Variants:

From October 1997 to 1998, the ITV URL also appears at the bottom right of the screen saying "www.itv.co.uk".
On Channel 4 News, the text underneath changes into "An ITN Production for Channel 4".
- From 2003 the words "An and "Production" appears on the left and bottom right with the 1999-2004 Channel 4 logo appearing on the right side.
- Another variant has the 2005-2015 Channel 4 logo appearing with the ITN logo with no text appearing below the ITN logo.
On ITN World News, the text underneath the ITN logo reads "An ITN Production for NBC Super Channel" with the copyright disclaimer for ITN appears below.
When Channel 5 was launched in 1997, it's news programme "Channel 5 News" which produced by ITN from 1997 until 2004, the text was changed into "An ITN Production for Channel 5" with the copyright disclaimer for ITN and the URL for the ITN website.
Beginning on October 5, 1998, the text reads "An ITN Production" and from March 1999 until late 2001, the URL for ITN is seen below.
For documentaries that were produced by it's factual division the text below reads "An ITN Factual Production".

Music/Sounds: None or the ending theme of the show.

Seen on programmes and documentaries produced by ITN until 2006.
The 1995 ITN endcap with the 1989 ITV logo also made a surprise appearance on the October 28, 2002 edition of the ITV Morning News as well.
