Background

Island World Productions was formed on March 20, 1990, by Tony Garnett, which was then renamed to World Productions in 1994.

(1991-June 2, 1994)

Logo: On an detailed star map displaying several constellations, a blue light flashes in and moves a bit to the left, revealing a rotating grey globe of Earth with metallic chrome continents, zooming in until it takes up the entire screen. After a brief second, the globe zooms out to reveal the merged letters "iw" in black with a white outline, and a blue-black gradient background is revealed. A pattern of the star map also zooms out onto the "iw" at a delayed fashion. Then, the text "AN" with a red line going through it, "ISLAND WORLD", and "PRODUCTION" with a blue bar through it, fades in below.

Variants:

  • On shows, the channel's name/logo and a copyright notice are seen.
  • A more common short version has the logo fully formed, with only the globe rotating.
  • On Between the Lines, the logo is inside a box and only "ISLAND WORLD" is the only text present.

Technique: 2D computer animation, with possible model work for the globe.

Music/Sounds: A proud orchestral fanfare. The short version uses the ending theme of the programme.

Availability: Rare.
