Background

Movic is a Japanese company which specializes in the publication of trading cards, figures, CDs, and other general media related to the anime industry. The company is part of the Animate group.

1st Logo (July 26, 1986-March 21, 1994)

Visuals: On a black background, there is the "movic" text in a somewhat, yet simple-looking futuristic appearance. Usually paired above, below or in between one or two other logos.

Variants:

  • On Gall Force: Eternal Story, the Eirin rating stamp is added on the bottom-right corner.
  • On Dog Soldier: Shadows of the Past, the background has been recolored to blue.

Technique: Chyroned fading effects.

Audio: None.

Availability: Shown on the OVAs of Wanna Be's, Crystal Triangle, Minna agechau, Dog Soldier: Shadows of the Past, Plastic Little, among others, aswell as the movie Gall Force: Eternal Story.

2nd Logo (Mid 1990s-2001?)

Visuals: On a black background, The "o" of "movic" zooms out from the screen through it's hole. The letters "m" and "vic" slide in between the "o" and stand still.

Technique: Computer animation.

Audio: None.

Availability: Can be found on video releases of Blue Seed, Neon Genesis Evangelion, among others.

3rd Logo (July 19, 1997-2013)

Visuals: Starting from a starfield, an 8-pointed star emerges from the upper-left section and eventually turns into a cyan comet out of particles. The screen begins to move as the comet forms the letters of "movic". The particles' color turn lime and shortly turn into a metallic texture of the latter. The screen then pans onto view, as the texture shines.

Variant:

  • On some video releases such as Air, the logo is letterboxed.
  • On the movies The End of Evangelion and Adolescence of Utena, the logo is cropped and shifted closer to the screen to match the current aspect ratio.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: A ding that culminates to a rising whoosh, then to a cymbal/snap infused rhythm. Another ding, slightly transposed by a semitone follows this.

Availability: Can be found on video releases of Tsukihime, G-On Riders, Air, Chobits, Mamotte Shugogetten, Student Council's Discretion Lv.2, among others. Also appeared on the movies The End of Evangelion and Adolescence of Utena.

4th Logo (2013-)

Visuals: From a moving dark blue sky, the glossy, transparent "movic" from a 90ª counterclockwise angle zooms away through it's hole and pans into view. As the sky darkens, the remains of said sky are maintained inside "movic". The latter also appears to be slightly spaced out.

Variant: On earlier releases such as Corpse Party, the logo is still, featuring "movic" colored in dodger blue, fading on a black background.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: A soft synth-pad driven ambience soundtrack.

Availability: Can be found on video releases of Kemurikusa, Corpse Party, among others.
