Background

TBS Productions was the in-house production company for the Turner Broadcasting System that produced original TV series for TBS. It was expanded to produce content for TNT in 1988, Cartoon Network in 1992 and Turner Classic Movies in 1994. In 1995, the original TBS Productions was renamed to Turner Original Productions and in 2001 as Turner Television before being merged into Warner Bros. Television in 2003.

In 2006, TBS Productions was relaunched when TBS became a comedy channel. It was merged into Studio T in 2016.

1st Logo (September 2, 1985-June 26, 1987)

Visuals: On a black-blue-ish gradient background is the text "In Association with" in white at the top of the screen, Below that is the text:

TBS
PRODUCTIONS

in the middle of the screen. Below that is copyright information reading:

Copyright © [year]
TBS Production(s), Inc.

at the bottom of the screen.

Variants:

  • The font on the copyright info would either be big, small, or italicized.
  • Sometimes, the company name and/or the copyright info would fade or wipe in.

Technique: Fading effects.

Audio: None.

Availability: Seen on Rocky Road.

2nd Logo (1992-1995)

Visuals: A yellow square with Earth rolling inside zooms in. Then, "TBS" (stacked in blue panels) slides in from above, followed by a red line and the word "PRODUCTIONS" underneath, and the square settles to the right.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: A piano and guitar theme. On Moon Shot, a fading synth note is heard. On some occasions, the logo's silent.

Availability: Appeared on several TBS programs of the time, including the 1994 documentaries Moon Shot and The Native Americans and the mini series Idols of the Game.

3rd Logo (July 17, 2007-June 27, 2010)

Visuals: The camera pans up through several cotton clouds until a daytime sky is revealed. The TBS logo ("tbs" with a half-circle underneath) and "productions" (in Arial Rounded MT Bold) are in the middle.

Variant: Sometimes, the clouds are pink.

Technique: CGI by S419.

Audio: A majestic version of TBS's 7-note jingle from 2004-2011. Sometimes, the closing theme of the show is heard.

Availability: Appeared on The Bill Engvall Show and Frank TV, the former which was released on DVD. Also seen on Ellen's Even Bigger Really Big Show and Ellen's Somewhat Special Special.

4th Logo (2012-2016)

Visuals: On a green background, two strings lower a black pillow-like object and the white word "PRODUCTIONS". The pillow then unfolds into the TBS emblem, and "tbs" ufnolds over it.

Technique: CGI by Ferroconcrete.

Audio: The sounds of the logo unfolding and popping out.

Availability: Seen on King of the Nerds and season 1 of Angie Tribeca.

5th Logo (2016-2017)

Visuals: On a black background is a "b" with a watery texture. Then, a "t" with the same texture appears, as the "b" switches its texture to medium blue with blue, red, and pale blue stripes. Once again, the textures switch as an "s" appears. The background color then changes to purple as a rectangle appears behind the letters (forming the new TBS logo). Then the background changes to a purple and blue-ish gradient as the letters in "tbs" turn blue with green stripes. The word "PRODUCTIONS" then wipes in below, and the background wiggles.

Technique: 2D computer animation by Sean Heisler.

Audio: A robotic synth chord with a distorted chipmunk laugh.

Availability: Seen on The Detour and Full Frontal with Samantha Bee.
