Background

WSNS-TV (channel 44) is a Telemundo-affiliated television station in Chicago, owned by NBCUniversal's Telemundo Station Group, alongside NBC outlet WMAQ-TV. Founded in 1970, it initially aired news headlines before evolving into an independent station with movies and sports. In 1980, it became the local outlet for ON TV, a subscription service, which ended in 1985 due to the rise of cable TV. WSNS then became Chicago's first full-time Spanish-language station, initially affiliated with Univision and switching to Telemundo in 1989. After surviving a license challenge, it was fully acquired by Telemundo in 1996, later integrating operations with WMAQ in 2002 following NBC's purchase of Telemundo.
