KBYU is a former PBS station affiliate located in Provo, Utah, also serving Salt Lake City, Utah, which is served by KUED. It is owned and operated by Brigham Young University, which also stands out as the station's call letters. On July 2, 2018, it ended its affiliation with PBS in favor for being a relay station for BYUtv, Brigham Young University's other channel.
1st ID (1986-1988)
Visuals: There is a mountain against a black-blue gradient background. On the mountain, there is the number "11" (KBYU's channel number) in outline form next to a blue "Kbyu", in a Bauhaus 93-like font, and over "P R O V O U T A H", and a light passes through it.
Variant: A longer version was used as a station ID. It starts at the mountain on a black background, and a blue glow happens behind it while "11 KBYU" zooms out, shrinking itself before settling in place. "P R O V O U T A H" then appears below.
Technique: 2D animation.
Audio: An orchestral tune that sounds like the beginning of Frank Gari's "Great News" music. In the station ID, mellow piano music is heard, along with an announcer saying "This is KBYU-TV, Channel 11, Provo, Utah-- the ones to watch."
Availability: Seen on Hooked on Aerobics episodes of this era.
2nd ID (1988-1993)
Visuals: Over a dark blue-dark gray gradient background, the logo starts with the KBYU logo in purple with italics, zooming in quickly. Then, a diamond-shaped flash of light occurs behind the logo, which is now over the small text "PROVO/SALT LAKE CITY".
Visuals: On a stone background, the golden 3D text "KBYU" in a different font from before, as well as the smaller text "T E L E V I S I O N" swing in from the right side of the screen, zooming back from the camera. Already in the background, there is the text "A Presentation of" in a golden Times New Roman font, and a comet near the bottom appears flies to the right, revealing "Brigham Young University" in the same font, as it leaves yellow/orange/red particles.
Technique: CGI.
Audio: None.
Availability: It has been seen on Woman, The Pioneer.
