Background

KVIE is a PBS affiliate located in Sacramento, California.

1st ID (1975-1979)

Visuals: In a dark bronze background, with the text "A PRODUCTION FROM" and "SACRAMENTO CALIFORNIA" near the bottom right side. A dark yellow KVIE logo, in a Pac-Man-esque font slides in from the left, and "A PRODUCTION FROM" slides up, as the screen pans up from the lake.

Variant: It has the the same logo, text and animation as before but this time the background has the screen panning up from a lake with trees on the shore at sunset.

Technique: Chroma key animation.

Audio: None for the orange background variant, unknown for the ocean background variant.

Availability: The original variant appeared on Report from Mexico City: International Women's Year Conference, however so far the only sighting of lake background variant was a part of KVIE's 50th anniversary special.

Legacy: This logo's only known appearance was on an anniversary special for almost 10 years, in 2024 however this logo was found only to have another variant.

2nd ID (April 24, 1979-1986)

Visuals: Over a blue background, the logo starts with the word "KVIE6" in the same font as before, but the "I" is capitalized, and "Sacramento/Stockton" is below. All the text is outlined yellow and colored black. The logo stays there for 4 seconds, before fading out.

Technique: A still, computerized graphic.

Audio: A rapid 6-note Moog arpeggio plays, then repeats itself. "Echoes" of the theme begin playing at various times over it. As the logo begins to fade out, another copy of the theme, pitched up an octave, begins to repeat as well. This is actually the 12th track of Sound Patterns in Oscillations 4 by Don Voegeli.

Availability: Seen on Leo Buscaglia's The Art of Being Fully Human.

3rd ID (April 24, 1980)

Visuals: Over a red fabric-esque background, the logo starts with the KVIE logo from before fades in and flashes in slowly. The difference here is the number "6" is absent, the logo is smaller, and the logo is completely white.

Technique: Analog computer animation.

Audio: Same as the first WJCT logo, but high pitched.

Availability: Seen on Speaking of Love.

4th ID (April 24, 1980-1984)

Visuals: The word "KVIE" in a different font with "Sacramento" below in Helvetica, placed red background (either dark or bright), stays there for almost 6 seconds before fading out. Both texts are in white.

Technique: A still, computerized graphic.

Audio: An announcer says: "A presentation from KVIE, Sacramento".

Availability: Seen on some Leo Buscaglia's productions for KVIE.

5th ID (June 11, 1984)

Visuals: There is the word "KVIE" in the same font before, in silver and 3D (that's looks like a piece of carton), fades in on a blue background. And when the "KVIE" word shines, the word "SACRAMENTO" in blue, Helvetica and in a white outline, fades in.

Technique: Analog computer animation.

Audio: None.

Availability: Seen on the Leo Buscaglia production, Loving Relationships.

6th ID (1986-1995)

Variant: On Born to Love, the circle graphic is superimposed over an animated blue and red background.
