Background

Louisiana Public Broadcasting is a PBS affiliate that serves the entire state of Louisiana, with the exception of the New Orleans area, which has its own affiliate, WYES.

National IDs

1st Logo (1977-1981)

TBA.

2nd Logo (1981-mid 80s)

3rd Logo (Late 80's-Early 1990's)

Logo: On a blue/black gradient background, 5 colored lines slide in from the top of the screen. 6 bars fly in from all sides of the screen and form an "L". "Louisiana Public Broadcasting" slides in from the right side of the screen. The "L" and the text disappear and the lines expand, and "a presentation of" slides from the left side of the screen.

Variant: There's a local version where there's a black background and an announcer. The 6 station names, complete with number and town, slide in from the left and right sides of the screen. There's also a still, silent version.

Technique: The sliding of the bars, "L", and text. The lines expanding and the sliding in of the station names in the variant.

Music/Sounds: A synth tune ending with three notes.

Music/Sounds Variant: The local variant has the last note extended and an announcer saying the name and the station name.

Availability: Ultra rare, can be seen in Folk, which can be viewed on ladigitalmedia.org.

4th Logo (Mid 1990s-Late 1990's)

Logo: On a steel blue BG, the "L" (this time being having a blue sky texture with billowing clouds) from the last logo appears with the text "Louisiana Public Broadcasting" below it in blue.

Technique: The L's "texture".

Music/Sounds: A long whoosh, with 6 orchestrated/xylophone like notes.

Availability: Most likely rare on TV. This was found on American Utopia, a program from 1994.

Legacy: This was most likely used during the 1990s, up until possibly 2001.

5th Logo (1999-2000s)

Logo: On a white background with a light blue rectangle, a blur zooms in to reveal the following text:

A PRODUCTION OF
LOUISIANA
PUBLIC
BROADCASTING

In the background are the transparent letters "L", "P", and "B", moving to the right.

Technique: Just the zoom-in.

Music/Sounds: A synthesized fluttering flute jingle.

Availability: Could be seen on some LPB-produced shows from this era.

Legacy: There could've been more animation in this logo, but it looks pretty good for its time.
