Background

WKAR is a PBS station located in East Lansing, Michigan.

1st Logo (2001-2003)

Visuals: On a rippling water background, there are the letters "WKAR" flipping in. At the same time, the letters of the words "A Production Of" come together horizontally. The symbol of the Michigan State University zooms and blurs out while the "R" in "WKAR" flips in. After the letters of "A Production Of" come together, the words "MICHIGAN STATE UNIVERSITY" with a line above "STATE UNIVERSITY" fade in. Then the top left part of the symbol shines.

Technique: 2D computer animation.

Audio: An 8-note chime tune with a choir throughout the whole logo.

Availability: Seen on Quizbusters during the time.

2nd Logo (2003-2005)

Visuals: On a red background with a very blurry golden "50", we see the PBS circle with "WKAR" above it. "1954" and "2004" with lines on the top and bottom come out of the PBS circle on each side. A golden "50" is written behind the "WKAR" text. When the "0" is being written, "Original Production" fades in and shrinks horizontally. The wordmark for Michigan State University fades in during the process. The background shines while the wordmark fades in.

Technique: 2D computer animation.

Audio: Same as the previous logo.

Availability: Same as the previous logo.

3rd Logo (2005-2007)

Visuals: On a dark green background with a blurry light green "150" on it, "A Production of" shrinks horizontally and fades in. "WKAR" with a PBS circle next to it wipes in and some lens flare appears around it. On the bottom, the "S" symbol for Michigan State University, "150", and the wordmark for Michigan State University fade in. There are "spotlights" in the background.

Technique: 2D computer animation.

Audio: Same as the previous logos.

Availability: Same as the previous logos.

4th ID (2007-2013)

Visuals: On a green curtain background is the symbol for Michigan State University from the first logo zooming out to the center. "A Production of" with "WKAR" wipes in. During that, the wordmark for Michigan State University fades in.

Technique: 2D computer animation.

Audio: Same as the previous logos.

5th ID (2013-)

Visuals: On a black background, there are two blue lasers that form the PBS circle. The PBS circle then slides to the right to reveal the words "WKAR". The wordmark for the Michigan State University fades in.

Technique: 2D computer animation.

Audio: An electric guitar note.

Availability: Seen on Off the Record. Sometimes it's followed by the Michigan Association of Public Broadcasters logo.
