Background

WVPT is a PBS station licensed to Staunton, Virginia, and serving the Shenandoah Valley. It first aired in 1968.

1st Logo (1980s)

Logo: On a live-stock background, we see the text "WVPT." Below it, we see a large numeral "51." Beside it, we see "Staunton, Virginia".

Technique: None.

Music/Sounds: A voice-over saying "Staunton, Virginia, Channel 51, providing service to the Shenandoah Valley and the Piedmont region." with a calm trumpet theme ending with a guitar.

Availability: Extinct. It was only used as a station ID.

2nd Logo (1989-1999)

Logo: On a gray background, we see the text "WVPT" flip in. Then, an italic "FROM" text fades in, and a curved line wipes in below the "WVPT" text.

Technique: Computer animation.

Music/Sounds: A 3-note sound.

Availability: Seen on their programming at the time.

Legacy: The line beneath the logo is noticeably rasterized and appears to be Chyron.

3rd Logo (1999-2002)

Logo: On a live-stock background, the text "From" fades in, and below it, the WVPT logo flips in.

Technique: Computer animation.

Music/Sounds: The same 3-note sound from before, except it is modified.

Availability: Same as the previous logo.
