Background

West Virginia Public Broadcasting (WVPB) is the public television and radio state network serving the U.S. state of West Virginia. The 1st station to go on the air was WVPB-TV in 1969 (formerly WMUL-TV, and then WPBY-TV).

1st Logo (1976-1978)

Logo: Just the text "WMUL-TV" in a western-like font over a picture of some hills. Flowers can be seen on the bottom of the screen.

Technique: None.

Music/Sounds: The opening theme of the program.

Availability: Extinct.

2nd Logo (1978-1981)

Logo: On a black background, 2 yellow waves draw in at the same time. 2 more also draw in, but get bigger as well, with the left wave drawing the upper half of West Virginia. Below the shape, "West Virginia Public Broadcasting" fades in below, along with "WMUL".

Technique: Standard scanimate animation.

Music/Sounds: A modular synth arpeggio, similar to the tune played in the Converge Video logo and the theme to the 2003 video game CrazyBus. This is an excerpt from B6 Electronic Free For All by Don Voegeli.

Availability: Seen on Sugar in the Gourd.
