1st Logo (September 1, 1962-1982)

Nicknames: "The Hexagons", "The Leopard"

Logo: A white hexagon containing a leopard's head appears on a black background, then zooms out to the top right corner of the screen as, one at a time, five plain white hexagons appear below (representing the five main Channel Islands: Jersey, Guernsey, Alderney, Sark and Herm). Finally, the words "CHANNEL" and "TELEVISION" appear above and below these five hexagons respectively.

Variants:

• When the channel introduced color broadcasting in 1976, the logo became light yellow while the background became blue.
• There exists an extremely rare variant that just has "CHANNEL".
• A few variants have been made for opening and closing of programs:
  • The same logo, but smaller and with a redrawn leopard head, with "Channel Television" above and "Presents" below.
  • Just the plain text "CHANNEL PRESENTS", on either black on white, white on black, and, when color was introduced, dark gray on salmon.
• There was a completely different logo design used at the end of programs from 1976-1982, with a yellow rounded rectangle with an oblong-shaped cutout in the middle. "CHANNEL" is seen in Microgramma, as well as "COLOUR PRODUCTION" below it.

FX/SFX: The hexagon with the leopard's head zooming-out, and the rest of the logo appearing.

Music/Sounds: A seven-note horn fanfare, with each note in sync with the animation.

Availability: Extinct. This has a Flash remake (but not the color variant, since it was only discovered recently) on "625.uk.com".

2nd Logo (1976-1989)

Nickname: "Early CTV Stripes", "CTV Stripes"

Logo: On a blue background, we see a "CTV" made of 9 orange stripes, with the last 2 letters conjoined and the logo being surrounded by a white outline. Below it is a white rectangle with the blue text "Channel Television" in it.

Accompanying clock ident: The same "CHANNEL" text from before is seen on a blue background while inside a white oblong with lines coming off of the sides. Above it is a standard analog clock chroma-keyed in white. A special "New Years" variant replaced the background and text with a "gift-wrap" wallpaper and the text "NEW YEAR ON CHANNEL" below it. The clock's also tinted yellow.

Variants:

• The closing variant replaced the white box with the words "© COPYRIGHT CHANNEL TELEVISION [year]", in Microgramma.
• A rare, 21st anniversary variant was made was made in 1983, which had the text below in a white Microgramma font and no box, as well as the logo sporting a light blue "21", also made of 9 lines.
• From 1985-1986, the closing variant became videotaped, with the logo ditching the white and changing the font to a simpler font, now saying "© CHANNEL TELEVISION [year]" instead.
• In 1988, the background is now black and the text may be in Times New Roman now or will say "CHANNEL TELEVISION" in the same font, with "© Copyright 1988" below in the same font as the previous version.

FX/SFX: None.

Music/Sounds: A portion of Keith Mansfield's "Superstar Fanfare (d)" or none.

Availability: Very rare. The main logo was used from 1982-1985 and is extinct, while the closing variants can still be seen on some prints of shows.

3rd Logo (1985-1989)

Nickname: "CTV Stripes II"

Logo: On a black background, 2 sets of orange lines slide into place to form the same logo as before but without the white outline, spinning around as they do. The words "Channel Television", in glowing blue, appear below.

Variants:

• An early variant has no spinning effect for the stripes.
• A local variant has the logo shrunk down to a small square in the center of the screen. From it, a montage of 4 different clips, all showing different scenes around the Channel Islands, zoom in and fill up the rest of the screen. "for the Channel Islands" in a typewriter font with a thick black outline, wipes in below.

FX/SFX: The stripes flying in. Pretty clean, if a bit simplistic.

Music/Sounds: Same as the 2nd logo. The early variant has no music, and the local ident has a different horn fanfare.

Availability: Extremely rare.

4th Logo (1987)

Nicknames: "CTV 25", "CTV Stripes III"

Logo: One by one, nine orange lights move quickly from left to right across a black background, tracing the CTV logo. When the logo is completed, it moves to the top left of the screen, rotating once as it does so, and to its right, a silver "25" in the same style flashes into place, and sparkles three times. Finally, in the lower half of the screen, the text "CHANNEL TELEVISION" is written in by a white flash, along with white border lines above and below, and then a second white flash writes in "25 YEARS OF BROADCASTING" underneath, also with a white border line below.

Variant: A closing variant was made consisting of the CTV logo and the striped 25, both in a light shade of orange; the line "© CHANNEL TELEVISION 1987" below; and two light blue stylized spools of film in-between, with one saying "1962" and having 4 sections, and the other saying "1987" and having 3 sections. Everything is set against a blue or black background.

FX/SFX: The orange lights, the silver 25, and the white flashes.

Music/Sounds: A series of synthesized notes as the CTV logo is being traced, culminating in a celebratory fanfare.

Availability: Extinct. This was only used as a station ID. The ending variant is extremely rare.

5th Logo (1989-1993)

Nicknames: "CGI CTV Stripes", "CTV Stripes in 3D", "CTV Stripes IV", "Fast Rainbow Stripes"

Logo: On a blue gradient background, a 3D version of the CTV logo in silver zooms out, shining once as it does so. Two pairs of rainbow-colored stripes suddenly come in from both sides of the screen and move quickly across the still-moving CTV logo, turning it orange. The CTV logo comes to a rest just below the middle of the screen, and the words "Channel Television", in silver, rotate into view below.

Accompanying clock ident: Same clock as before, but it's larger and pushed into the top left corner, while a small "CTV" logo is seen in the bottom right corner.

Variants:

• One of the two closing variants used simply consisted of the CTV logo, in a brighter shade of orange, against an ordinary blue BG, with the words "A CHANNEL TELEVISION PRODUCTION FOR" and the ITV logo of the time below.
• The other consisted of a 2D version of the CTV logo against the gradient blue BG, with "© CHANNEL TELEVISION [year]" below.

FX/SFX: The "CTV" zooming out, the rainbow lines, and the station name rotating into view. None for either closing variant.

Music/Sounds: A rather portentous synthesized tune featuring a series of 3 horn notes increasing in pitch and volume, ending with a loud drum roll; there is also a "swish" sound as the rainbow flashes move across the screen. None accompanying either closing variant.

Availability: Extinct.

6th Logo (1989)

7th Logo (1993-May 31, 1999)

Nicknames: "CGI CTV Stripes II", "CTV Stripes in 3D II", "CGI Stripes V"

Logo: On a dark blue background, a large 3D version of the CTV logo goes from the front of the screen, with the rainbow lines already scanning through it. When it rests, the logo shines and shrinks into a comfortable position as "Channel Television" fades in below.

Accompanying clock ident: The background is the same, albeit a bit brighter, and now there's a different clock with an inverted gradient, smaller blocks for the hours, and the CTV logo above the center point. Below it is the bold text "Channel Television". Much like the previous clocks, it's a board with an analog clock on it.

Variants:

• Closing variants consisted of the "CTV" on the dark blue BG, with either "A Channel Television Production", "A Channel Television Production For ITV" or "© Channel Television [year]" below.
• This was also incorporated into the 1996-1999 intro of *Channel Report*, where after the logo was finished, the text fades out and the CTV logo swings to the left, beginning the intro. It also has smoother animation and sometimes a much clearer image for the reflection inside of the logo.

FX/SFX: About the same as the 5th logo.

Music/Sounds: A simple synthesized fanfare.

Availability: Extinct.

8th Logo (1998-May 31, 1999)

Nicknames: "Channel Word Cloud", "Channel"

Logo: Against a shining blue and purple background, we simply see many instances of the word "Channel", all colored dark blue and either in all small letters or all capitals. Some of the instances move up or down, others left or right, and the rest form rings that rotate clockwise or counterclockwise.

FX/SFX: The BG and all the words moving.

Music/Sounds: A calming guitar jingle.

Availability: Extinct, as it was rather short lived.

9th Logo (1999)

Nickname: "TV From The Heart", "ITV Generic II", "Planet Channel Islands"

10th Logo (June 1, 1999-2006)

Nicknames: "Heart of the Islands", "Planet Channel Islands II"

Logo: Over the same "spinning hearts" background as in the second ITV generic logo, we see a rotating blue globe containing the five main Channel Islands in yellow, and two yellow comets orbiting the globe, perpendicular to each other. After a while, the globe and comets zoom out to the top half of the screen, and the word "Channel", in yellow and in the Optima font, moves in below from the bottom. The words "HEART OF THE ISLANDS" in white then fade in below "Channel". Finally, the globe and comets become static in such a way that all five Channel Islands can be seen on the globe, while the comets form a heart shape.

Accompanying clock ident: Uniquely, from 2000-2002, they had a clock consisting of a glowing pink analog clock embellished onto a floating cube among the generic "spinning hearts" background at the time. This was shown before Channel Report, the local news programme.

Variants:

• Sometimes, the Channel's URL of the time would also fade in, immediately below "HEART OF THE ISLANDS".
• There was also a variant with a cloudy blue and purple BG.

FX/SFX: All the animation in this logo.

Music/Sounds: An extended version of the guitar jingle from the 8th logo, together with the inclusion of a piano.

Availability: Extinct.

11th Logo (2002-2004)

Nickname: "Channel People"

Logo: Same as the ITV1 Celebrities logo, but the ITV1 logo is replaced with the same Channel TV logo and animation on the left.

FX/SFX: Same as the ITV1 logo, but with the inclusion of the Channel Television logo animation.

Music/Sounds: Same as the ITV1 logo.

Availability: Extinct.

12th Logo (2004-2006)

Logo: The camera pans through views of the Channel Islands, while the 9th Channel TV logo animates on the right.

13th Logo (June 1, 2006-November 2011)

Nickname: "Channel Emotions"

Logo: Same as the short-lived ITV1 "Emotions" idents, but once the logo is formed, the text "Channel Television" fades in under the logo. Instead of using the clips from the Emotions idents, various shots of landmarks and places around the Channel Islands can be seen.

FX/SFX: The ITV1 logo forming.

Music/Sounds: Same as the music from the 'Pride' Emotions ident.

Availability: Extinct.

14th Logo (November 2011-14th January 2013)

Logo: As a clip plays in the background, the refreshed 2011 ITV1 logo fades in one by one, with the text "Channel Television" fading in underneath.

FX/SFX: The ITV1 logo fading in.

Music/Sounds: A new 8-note piano jingle plays, which is synchronised to the ITV1 logo fading in on-screen.

Availability: Extinct.

Editor's Note: These idents are quite bland compared to the previous set, but still do a good job at showing off various locations around the Channel Islands.

Final Note: ITV plc acquired Channel Television from Yattendon Group in 2011, and when ITV rebranded in 2013, Channel Television started using the standard ITV idents.
